Welcome to Pervasive Health 2006! This is the first International Conference on Pervasive Computing technologies for Healthcare. This is a new conference that addresses a new and rapidly evolving research area, namely the use of new innovative computing technologies targeted for the treatment and care of patients – in the home, on the road, and in hospitals. This is an exciting area which has the potential to help people better cope with their health related problems – this is indeed a very rewarding kind of research to be engaged in. Looking at the kind of research going on in this area, there is however a strong need for researchers, clinicians, and industry to meet and exchange ideas, solutions, and new challenges. We are confident that Pervasive Health will become the leading international conference on pervasive healthcare and by looking at this year's program, we already have a head start. Pervasive Health provides an opportunity to interact with your colleagues, to inform each other about the latest results and methods in the field, and to inspire each other to move the field forward.
We have made an explicit effort to engage the many communities that make up this multi-disciplinary research field. The goal has been to ensure that the conference program contains events that will appeal to all communities. Of course, many events are cross-cutting, appealing to multiple communities.

We have contributions ranging from overall design, usability, clinical evidence, to relatively technical engineering of tiny sensor platforms. We encourage everybody to go and have a look at it all – you may never know what you could be inspired to do to help us create better technologies for the treatment and care of patients in the future.
The Pervasive Health 2006 conference is being held at the Hotel Grauer Baer in the heart of Innsbruck which is a wonderful Austrian city with a wide range of outdoor opportunities.
